“In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has.”
Proverbs 21:20 (NIV)

This has always been my go-to verse for rationalizing my obsession for home canning/freezing/preserving. But let’s be real. It’s just a hobby. An obsession that keeps me busy, but also that I enjoy. There’s something fun about providing good food for your family. But here’s where my pride gets me into trouble. Clearly The Lord provides all that food for my family-not me. And I am so grateful that he lets me have a hand in it. Lets me watch the wonder of how He grows a plant & produces fruit or vegetable. Then we get to eat it! Awesome! Thank you Lord for this gift!

Here are some glimpses from the garden God provided us this year & some of the abundance he allowed us to store up for this coming winter.

Planting seeds:

Early garden:

(Clockwise from top Left: peas, brocoli, green beans, carrots, lettuce, black raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, potatoes, herbs)

Pea harvest:

Potato harvest:

Blueberry harvest:

Carrot harvest (1 of 3 different plantings)

Canning peaches

Dill pickles

Corn harvest (delicious!!)

Tomato sauce

Dried apples (from my sweet friend’s tree)

Sweet taters

The pantry-stocked with peaches(a family favorite, can ya tell?!), jams, tomatoes, sauces, salsa, pickles, applesauce, pears, relish & I’m honestly not sure what else without looking. 😉

I tried these new lids on some of the canning I did this year. I guess they aren’t technically brand new, but new to me. They seemed ok so far. They are completely reusable-plastic lid, rubber inner ring & you use the same metal outer rings. Any one else that has experience with them-please be sure to share!

If you want to learn to do some canning or freezing or drying-get a Ball Blue Book. That & my momma taught me nearly all I know on the subject. I love her. She’s a smart lady. 🙂
